The backpack is the basic essentials of the hiking experience.  Proper selection is needed to ensure that the experience is one that is enjoyable, not a burden.   For, that one day outing, we recommend a hydro pack., add to your camping gear collection!   These little packs offer pockets for snacks and camera's....... Plus it holds one to three liters of anything from water to ice tea.  The bags can be removed and put in the freezer, or the refrigerator.  Hot coffee can also be used too.

     Another item that have become more of the essential for outings are a GPS unit.  GPS are a great tool to find your way back to camp, by telling you the distances, and locations of your stops!  How far from the camp, you really are!  You may be amazed to find that it is just over that very big hill, some people may call it a mountain!  But to the outdoors type, just a bigger hill in the way!

    Another item also that is recommended for all outings is a multi-tool.  These tools are like a tool box in ones pocket.  Depending on the selection you like.  It can be anything from a small saw to tweezers for any splinters you might get.  Are main brands are Gerber and Leatherman.
